Debuting in the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens, Weightlifting has since grown into a worldwide, national, AND local sport with over 1000 athletes qualifying and competing at National events!
The sport consists of 2 movements: Snatch and Clean + Jerk. The combined weight is an athletes total for that competition and scores are organized into weight classes for medals!
Strength coaches of all levels (High school through professional) use weightlifting movements across the nation to develop:

This makes Weightlifting an EXCELLENT additional sport for youth athletes and getting started is very easy!
No equipment to begin (just bring your athlete!)
Weather is a non-factor (it's indoors)
